Travelling Light
After many great group discussions and sharing of thoughts on the subject of death an idea began to emerge for this sculpture ‘Travelling Light’.
It has been an exciting, frustrating and challenging project but I feel I have found a way to show my understanding and belief about death and beyond.
Death has always been a part of life and my personal experience with family and friends from an early age and recent months have forced me to refine these beliefs. So, life everlasting means no stopping of each spiritual idea but a continual process of development as we move through this material life and then beyond.
My sculpture represents that transition from this life and the next or rather the path up to the boundary between here and beyond; What we take or leave behind - a bit like moving countries.
We might try to hold on to our material self but we need to travel light so I want to show the jettisoning of unworthy traits or thoughts from the essence of self, even the fading memories which might tie us to this plane.
This is shown as crumpled forms detaching from the main form. Shedding these from the spiritual me enables me to rise up to the fringes of eternity
